At Cumbria Electroplating, we can copper plate almost any metal item. We use copper plating mostly as a base coat for the triple plating process, but it is also a very popular process for making objects around the home look nice and is particularly popular for items like saucepans due to the highly conductive nature of the metal.

Copper plating can improve the visual appearance of components by providing a shiny, attractive finish.
We begin our triple-plate chrome finish with an overnight layer of copper. This helps the parts last longer and keeps rust away. We carefully cover all fittings and threads so everything still fits perfectly when it’s finished. For extra confidence, the work comes with a three-year guarantee.
That first copper layer also helps with repairs. It lets us build up worn or patched areas to the right thickness. Sometimes a part needs a day or two in copper to reach the exact size before we move on to the next stages.
Copper plating applies a thin—or deliberately thick—layer of copper to another material using an electrolytic cell, much like other electroplating methods. It’s prized for superb conductivity (second only to silver), and for creating a smooth, even surface that takes primers, paints, glues, and further plating very well.
The metal is soft and easy to form while still adhering strongly, making it a reliable undercoat for additional finishes such as nickel and chrome.
Copper offers reasonable corrosion resistance, though for high-corrosion environments it’s best used as a base beneath nickel for tougher, longer-lasting protection. It’s also widely available and far more cost-effective than noble metals like gold, platinum, or silver.
